Music Icon Barry Manilow Reveals Heartbreaking Farewell Album

Legendary musician Barry Manilow has confirmed that his upcoming album will likely be his final one. At 82, the New York-born star has been teasing fans with hints of a new release, even promoting it on London buses following his sold-out concerts at the Palladium last year.

Originally slated for an autumn release, the long-awaited album has faced delays, but Manilow has now confirmed it’s almost ready—and it may serve as his swan song, according to The Express.

Speaking to Billboard, Barry shared, “This’ll probably be my last album. I’ve been working on it for so long that the style of music changed over the years. I had to go back and redo the songs to make them sound more contemporary.”

In updating the tracks, Manilow removed traditional elements like strings and background vocals, noting that such arrangements no longer resonate with today’s music landscape. “Even I felt it sounded dated, so we went back and reworked it,” he explained. Despite these changes, he remains confident, describing the collection as a “pop album” that he considers a “solid album,” while acknowledging it may not suit every listener. Importantly, he isn’t trying to compete with today’s chart-toppers or Grammy winners.

This upcoming release marks his first studio album since Night Songs II in 2020, ending a significant hiatus in a career that spans six decades. Over that time, Manilow has released 31 studio albums, six live albums, and 17 compilations, producing 57 singles that include timeless classics like Mandy, Copacabana, and I Write the Songs.

Alongside the album, Barry has been performing what he calls his “final concerts,” saying goodbye to fans across multiple cities while maintaining his Las Vegas residency. For fans worldwide, this album and the accompanying performances represent a poignant farewell from one of music’s most enduring voices.
