Barry Manilow Announces His Final Album at 82: A Career-Spanning Farewell

Music legend Barry Manilow has revealed that his upcoming album will likely be his last. At 82, the New York icon has long teased a new release for his fans, even going so far as to advertise on buses following his series of concerts at London’s Palladium last year.

Originally slated for an autumn release, the highly anticipated album has yet to hit the shelves. Now, Barry has confirmed that the wait is almost over — and it may serve as his musical swan song, according to the Express.

Speaking to Billboard, Barry reflected on the album’s long development process. “This’ll probably be my last album. I’ve been working on it for a long time, for so long that the style of music has changed,” he said. “I had to go back and redo the songs so they sounded a little more contemporary.”

To align with today’s musical trends, Barry also made significant revisions. “I had to take all the strings out, all the background vocals out because they don’t do that anymore. Even I heard that it sounded dated, so we had to go back and redo it,” he explained.

Despite these changes, Barry remains optimistic about the final result, describing it simply as a “pop album.” He acknowledges that it might not suit everyone’s tastes but considers it a “solid album,” emphasizing that he isn’t trying to compete with today’s chart-topping artists or Grammy winners.

This marks Barry’s first album release since Night Songs II in 2020, breaking a notable pause in a career that spans six decades and boasts an extraordinary catalogue: 31 studio albums, six live recordings, and 17 compilations. His 57 singles include timeless hits such as Mandy, Copacabana, and I Write The Songs.

While preparing this album, Barry has also been performing what he’s promoted as his “final concerts,” touring cities around the world to bid farewell to fans while managing dates for his Las Vegas residency. This dual focus on recording and performing underscores his enduring dedication to music — even as he prepares to close this final chapter of his legendary career.
